While I agree that the fundamental lack of moral integrity & courage is at the heart of world indifference and inaction in regard to Ukraine, it seems to me that it is naive to imagine that leaders of some nations (e.g. the Swiss in WWII) who are not protected by NATO have chosen neutrality in hopes of protecting themselves from retaliation. It would also be naive to imagine that the "retaliation" they fear most is military action against them, when being cut off from essential commodities such as food & fuel, and bearing the economic costs of war are reasonably a major concern.
Being a massive territory, Ukraine has a long history of surviving war (battling with the Byzantine Greeks, Greek nationals, Poles, Hungarians, Swedes/Norwegians (wow), Galicians, Muslims in general, and of course, the Russians). In fact, "war," in one form or another, is endemic to the history of Ukraine since the 9th century. Nevertheless, they are a hearty, patriotic, and defiant people in defense of their sovereignty. On the other hand, many other countries - even those bordering Ukraine, who are especially vulnerable - have neither the extended history or war, survival, or recovery from devastating economic loss incurred in attempting to support war. They must be dedicated to preserving & protecting the welfare of their citizens.
Finally, it seems certain that no one wishes to provoke a terrorizing a dictator & former head of the murderous KGB, who apparently has no hesitation whatsoever in punishing any country that actively opposes him. Personally, I have great skepticism of NATO's willingness - led by the US - to actively defend a member nation. Hopefully, this will never be tested in our lifetime, and the Russians themselves must be called upon to address this horror as the moral travesties that they literally are. Russians who support or defend Putin in these murderous, rogue perversity must be censored; and make no mistake, they are aggressive, pervasive, and foolishly defending Russia as the "victim," and Ukraine as the "aggressor." This is patently false, and they must not be tolerated in their "opinion." The fact is, their beliefs are gross rationalizations that have resulted in their own destruction, and countless deaths among their military, and among the heroes of the Ukraine.
